| The only way to repair the home insurance debacle in Florida and other disaster states comes from the federal government. It is imperative that Congress change the insurance law and force the insurance companies to base rates on the entire nation. Insurance companies can't focus on one state or area and subsequently explode rates, making them unaffordable for those citizens.
By setting national rates, the risk will spread throughout the whole country so non-disaster areas can help shoulder the burden of the areas hurt most. Florida is collapsing under the weight of double to quadruple rate increases. Its citizens can't afford these higher rates.
